WHY ARE MUSLIMS AGAINST MY NIQAB?

I can take any amount of insult from a non-Muslim towards my Niqab because they don't understand how beautiful it truly is. But when it's a Muslim who does it, that's a totally different story. I really don't get it. When they should in fact be backing us up for wearing the Niqab (okay, no need encouragement, remaining silent about it would do), they go about looking down on the Niqab, calling it 'cultural' and 'not necessary' in Islam. Personally, I believe that wearing the Niqab is obligatory as do many Scholars in Islam, so why don't them leave me to do what I want?

I've had Muslims call me a 'ninja' for my Niqab and I've seen many Muslims laugh at it. It really hurts to see your own Muslim brother or sister ridiculing something that is encouraged in Islam. Just one word here: If you call me a Ninja or whatever other names you do for my Niqab, you're in fact saying nearly the same thing to the wives of Prophet Muhammad (sallalahu alaihi wasallam), his daughters and other Sahabi women. So, weigh your words (insults in this case) before throwing them at Niqabis.

You may not like the Niqab- leave it at that. Don't go about discouraging, insulting or hurting a Niqabi for wearing it. If Prophet Muhammad (sallalahu alaihi wasallam) saw it right for his wives and daughters to wear the Niqab, so do I and so should every true follower of Prophet Muhammad (sallalahu alaihi wasallam). And remember that whether I wear the Niqab or not, I'm still your sister in Islam. Don't change Islam to support your opinion; change your opinions so that it doesn't contradict Islam.

I'm not saying this just for myself- I'm talking here on behalf of all the Niqabis who have to put up with insults from their very own Muslim brothers and sisters.

Underneath the Niqab, is a woman, and that woman is a human being, and every human being has a heart, and every heart has feelings. Please respect that.

  1. Asalamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!!! SubhanaAllah, I'm really sorry you had to go through all of that, I pray that Allah rewards you for your jihad even against THE SO CALLED muslims! I had a similar problem too WITH MUSLIMS when I first started to wear the niqab... I can't believe that they too said the same thing: it's cultural...???. Thats why I made a harsh post on my blog "done with sugar coatings". =)

  2. Assalam Alaykum,

How true. I do not wear the niqab but it is definitely an honorable thing to practice, mashallah. Modesty is such an important part of faith; it is sad that we muslims sometimes overlook that bit.

May Allah give you strength and increase your Iman.

    Love,

    Your sister in Islam

  5. I feel you ukhtii, it's such a shame that some so-called muslims act like that, it's harder when it's from people close to you...How can you discourage a person from taking a step to be closer to Allah, I really don't get it!!

  6. My thoughts exactly sis. It's especially tough if you have to endure insults for your Niqab from those close to you. May Allah guide them and us! :)

  7. Subhanallah... it is very sad. I wear jilbab/abaya and i get comments from the muslim community too. Like i am "over the top, its too much" etc etc.

Unfortunately, it is both ways, i have sisters in Niqab tell me i am going to hell for not covering my face. And the niqabi sisters get remarks from non-niqabi wearers saying they are extreme etc. Both sides need to stop this childish bickering and learn to accept one another. One is not going to hell because she chooses to uncover her face or chooses to cover it.

  8. Assalam alaikum,

I have had the same experiences! It's awful. Muslim women are worse than non muslims with the niqab it seems! I've had so many tell me it's not necessary and try to talk me out of wearing it! These women seem to have some obsession with wanting to see my face of something. It's creeepy! I'll be posting about my own horror storries relating to this insha'allah on my blog.

Jazakallah Khair for your post. Stay strong Niqabis!

  9. Assalamu alaikum,

TO ALL MY NIQABI SISTERS OUT THERE:

I am so sorry to know that you have to endure all this from others. I also ask Allah SWT to bless you and grant you Jannah for your strength and devotion to the niqab. It isn't easy to be ridiculed and I get it. Be strong and don't pay much attention to the haters. You are on the right track and you have nothing to be ashamed or apologetic about. You are the true daughters of Islam. Our beloved Messenger SAW would be proud of you. I am proud of you and happy to have you as sisters in Islam. May Allah bless you abundantly.

  10. Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu. I am a Niqaabi working in the medical field. Alhamdulillah, everyone is accepting of my Niqaab until i worked with a muslim doctor who questioned why I am a Niqaabi. I was horrified at her statement that 'the wives and daughters of our blessed Prophet Rasulullah (SAW) as well as other women of his time wore the Niqaab because they lived in a desert region'. I can totally relate to this post. May Allah (SWT) make it easy for us Niqaabi's and Hijaabi's

islam cames as something strange and will return that way. May Allah give our niqabi sisters the strength to hold there head high and patiently endure the bartil they encounter and raise there ranks for this sacrifice fisabilillah Aameen. Please make dua for me to become one as I am deeply thinking jazakallahu kharyn.umm ibraheem

    1. I am a Muslim and I completely disagree with niqab (the wearing of it, the obligation and even the beauty of it etc.) but I would never insult or hurt someone over a disagreement. Just the same as I respect homosexuals and other human beings who may do things I disagree with or think are wrong. I need to look at the human being first, not a single action – for who here is without sin? Everyone deserves respect and as Muslims we must have the very best manners.

  13. Because it is cultural, unnessecary and frankly makes you look unapproachable. Also most niqabis I have met act so holier than though and like they are so much better than us who choose to show our faces. I cannot tell you how many times I have been looked down upon by a niqabi because I choose to wear my hijab with pants and nice clothes.

    1. How many have you met? Maybe your already evident resentment freezes any sisterly love over.

  14. First time heard that such "muslims" exist who would make fun of Niqaab. I don't think they are Muslims, they are Munafiqs and Munafiqs are worst than Kafirs. Just show me that person and he will be having his balls for the last time Inshallah. Bilal Ahmad Farooq, Malaysia
